Marshall Boswell

Marshall Boswell was born in 1965 in Charleston, West Virginia. He earned his B.A. from Washington & Lee University, his M.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, and his Ph.D. from Emory University. He has taught English and fiction writing at Washington University, the University of Miami, Washington & Lee, and Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, where he is currently the T. K. Young Professor of English. He is the author of two works of fiction, the story collection Trouble with Girls (2003), available in paperback from Bantam Dell, and a novel, Alternative Atlanta (2005), published by Delacorte Press. He is also the author of two works of literary scholarship: John Updike’s Rabbit Tetralogy: Mastered Irony in Motion (University of Missouri Press), and Understanding David Foster Wallace (University of South Carolina Press). At present he is working on a new novel titled The Opinion Leader, which is set variously in Washington D.C. and the Shenandoah Valley. He is married with two young sons. He once played in a rock band that opened for both Alex Chilton and Uncle Tupelo, Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy’s first band. He still plays guitar, and plays it badly.
